Abstract
The present application relates to systems and methods for altering temperature in a mammalian body. Optionally, the systems and methods can be used to lower or raise core body temperature of a mammalian subject. Optionally, the systems and methods can be used to lower or raise the temperature of glabrous skin of a mammalian subject.
Claims11
A method for cooling the core body temperature of a subject, comprising:
- applying heat to peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue of the subject, wherein the applied heat increases or maintains perfusion of blood in glabrous tissue of the subject and applying a cooling stimulus to the glabrous tissue thereby cooling the core body temperature, wherein the heat is applied to the peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue simultaneously with application of the cooling stimulus to the glabrous tissue.
