Packaging device

A device for folding a bottom of a package, which package comprises a sleeve of packaging material having a longitudinal seal and a bottom forming portion having a shape of a fin with a transversal seal at its end, the device comprising:

• means for pre-folding the fin in a direction away from the longitudinal seal;
• a first folding unit comprising a plunger for pressing down on only a middle portion of the fin such that the fin is folded and primary flaps are created at transversal ends of the fin;
• a breaking unit for, after the first folding unit has pressed down on the middle portion of the fin to fold the fin and create primary flaps at transversal ends of the fin and while the first folding unit is engaged with the fin, breaking corners on the folded fin in boundary regions between the primary flaps and an edge between the bottom forming portion of the sleeve and a remainder of the sleeve, such that secondary flaps are folded in between the primary flaps and the pressed-down middle portion of the fin, the secondary flaps on each corner of each primary flap thereby being folded essentially towards each other;
• a second folding unit for, after the breaking unit has broken the corners on the folded fin and the first folding unit and breaking unit have disengaged from the fin, folding the primary flaps towards each other;
• and
• a pressing unit for pressing the primary flaps against the folded middle portion of the fin.
