Abstract
An IC card and an IC card system are disclosed in which command processing performance is improved by storing current state data related to a first command upon interruption of an execution cycle for the first command by a second command. Upon completion of the second command, the current state information is reloaded and execution of the first command is resumed.

An IC card comprising:
- an interface that receives from a host device a first command and a second command having a higher priority than the first command;
- a processor that sequentially executes the first command and the second command;
- and
- a suspend/resume controller configured to halt an initial execution of the first command and store current state information including assets related to the first command upon receipt from the host device of a suspend command related to a second command.

An IC card comprising:
- a program memory that stores an application;
- an interface that receives from a host device a first command and a second command having a higher priority than the first command;
- a processor that sequentially executes the first command and the second command from the application and comprises a program counter that stores a current program counter value;
- and
- a suspend/resume controller configured to sequentially:
- halt an initial execution of the first command,
- store current state information upon receipt of a suspend command from the host device,
- execute the second command, and
- reload the current state information to the processor and restart execution of the first command upon receipt of a resume command from the host device.
