Abstract
A contact printing system is disclosed. The contact printing system is provided with a central roll having a plurality of discrete cells disposed upon an outer surface thereof. Each of the plurality of discrete cells is in fluidic communication with a respective fluid delivery channel. Each of the fluid delivery channels are formed in situ with the formation of the central roll and the plurality of cells.
Claims14
A contact printing system comprising:
- a gravure roll comprising:
- a plurality of discrete cells disposed upon an outer surface of said gravure roll, and
- fluid delivery channels,
- wherein each of said plurality of discrete cells are in fluidic communication with a respective one of said fluid delivery channels,
- wherein said gravure roll, including each of said fluid delivery channels and said plurality of discrete cells, is formed such that said gravure roll has a unibody construction,
- wherein there are no moving parts interior to said gravure roll, and
- wherein said plurality of discrete cells provide a halftoning of greater than about 20 dpi print resolution.
