Abstract
A pressure transducer assembly that uses static pressure compensation to capture low-level dynamic pressures in high temperature environments. The pressure transducer assembly combines a static-dynamic pressure transducer with a micro-filter element to achieve a compact system that can be used in extreme temperature applications where low-level, dynamic pressure measurements are required in a high pressure environment.
Claims17
A pressure transducer assembly for measuring low-level, dynamic pressures in high temperature environments, comprising:
- a first tube, having a first end and a second end, adapted to receive an incoming pressure at the first end;
- a first sensing element mounted on the first tube adapted to output a signal substantially indicative of the total pressure of the incoming pressure;
- a micro-filter disposed proximate the second end of the first tube, wherein the micro-filter is adapted to dampen acoustic waves associated with the incoming pressure and allow static pressure to pass through;
- and
- a second sensing element mounted on the first tube adapted to output a signal substantially indicative of a dynamic pressure of the incoming pressure, wherein the static pressure that passes through the micro-filter is directed back to the second sensing element such that it is compensated for in the dynamic pressure output signal.
A pressure transducer assembly for measuring low-level, dynamic pressures in the presence of high static pressures, comprising:
- a first elongated tube having a first end, a second end, wherein the first end receives an incoming pressure;
- a first sensor mounted on the first elongated tube at a first distance from the first end, wherein the first sensor measures the total pressure of the incoming pressure;
- a micro-filter disposed proximate the second end of the first elongated tube, wherein the micro-filter dampens acoustic waves associated with the incoming pressure and allows the static pressure to pass through;
- a second elongated tube that extends between a terminal end of the micro-filter and the second sensor, wherein the second elongated tube further dampens acoustic waves associated with the incoming pressure and allows the static pressure to pass through;
- and
- a second sensor mounted on the first elongated tube at substantially the first distance from the first end, wherein the second sensor measures a dynamic pressure of the incoming pressure, and further wherein the static pressure that passes through the micro-filter and the second elongated tube is directed back to the second sensing element such that it is compensated for in the dynamic pressure output signal.
A method of measuring low-level, dynamic pressures in high temperature environments, comprising:
- receiving an incoming pressure source at a first sensor and a second sensor;
- outputting a signal substantially indicative of the total pressure of the incoming pressure source via the first sensor;
- dampening acoustic waves associated with the incoming pressure source and passing through static pressure of the incoming pressure source via a micro-filter;
- directing the static pressure that passes through the micro-filter back to the second sensor, such that the incoming pressure source is applied to a top side of the second sensor and the static pressure that passes through the micro-filter is applied to a bottom side of the second sensor so that the static pressure is canceled out;
- and
- outputting a signal substantially indicative of dynamic pressure of the incoming pressure source via the second sensor.
