Claims24
A composition comprising a (i) carboxylated, sulfonated polysaccharide, (ii) a non-oxidizing reaction byproduct, and (iii) a wellbore servicing fluid, wherein the carboxylated, sulfonated polysaccharide is prepared by contacting a polysaccharide with an oxidizing agent wherein the oxidizing agent oxidatively cleaves least one chemical bond of the polysaccharide selected from the group consisting of a glycosidic linkage and a hydroxylated carbon-carbon bond to form an oxidized polysaccharide and contacting the oxidized polysaccharide with a sulfonating agent to form the carboxylated sulfonated polysaccharide, wherein the oxidizing agent comprises a material with the general formula Y.nH2O.mH2O2 wherein Y is a salt, n is equal to or greater than zero and m is equal to or greater than 1, wherein the carboxylated, sulfonated polysaccharide has a molecular weight of from about 500 Daltons to about 1,000,000 Daltons, a ratio of carboxylate functionalities to sulfonate functionalities of from about 0.1 to about 4, and a percent of monosaccharide rings oxidized per carboxylated, sulfonated polysaccharide chain in the range of from about 1% to about 30%, wherein the composition has a biodegradability of greater than 20% in 68 days.
A wellbore servicing composition comprising (i) a hydraulic cement (ii) a non-oxidizing reaction byproduct and (iii) a carboxylated, sulfonated polysaccharide, wherein the carboxylated, sulfonated polysaccharide is prepared by contacting a polysaccharide with an oxidizing agent wherein the oxidizing agent oxidatively cleaves least one chemical bond of the polysaccharide selected from the group consisting of a glycosidic linkage and a hydroxylated carbon-carbon bond to form an oxidized polysaccharide and contacting the oxidized polysaccharide with a sulfonating agent to form the carboxylated sulfonated polysaccharide, wherein the oxidizing agent comprises a material with the general formula Y.nH2O.mH2O2 wherein Y is a salt, n is equal to or greater than zero and m is equal to or greater than 1, wherein the carboxylated, sulfonated polysaccharide has a molecular weight of from about 500 Daltons to about 1,000,000 Daltons, a ratio of carboxylate functionalities to sulfonate functionalities of from about 0.1 to about 4, and a percent of monosaccharide rings oxidized per carboxylated, sulfonated polysaccharide chain in the range of from about 1% to about 30%.
A wellbore servicing composition comprising (i) a polysaccharide having carboxylate and sulfonate groups, wherein the polysaccharide having carboxylate and sulfonate groups is prepared by contacting a polysaccharide with an oxidizing agent wherein the oxidizing agent oxidatively cleaves least one chemical bond of the polysaccharide selected from the group consisting of a glycosidic linkage and a hydroxylated carbon-carbon bond to form an oxidized polysaccharide having at least one ketone group, anhydride group, ester group, or combinations thereof and contacting the oxidized polysaccharide with a sulfonating agent to form the polysaccharide having carboxylate and sulfonate groups, wherein the oxidizing agent comprises a material with the general formula Y.nH2O.mH2O2 wherein Y is a salt, n is equal to or greater than zero and m is equal to or greater than 1, wherein the polysaccharide having carboxylate and sulfonate groups has a molecular weight of from about 500 Daltons to about 1,000,000 Daltons, a ratio of carboxylate functionalities to sulfonate functionalities of from about 0.1 to about 4, and a percent of monosaccharide rings oxidized per chain of polysaccharide having carboxylate and sulfonate groups in the range of from about 1% to about 30% and (ii) a non-oxidizing reaction byproduct.
