Abstract
The disclosure includes a method of and associated system for placing nodes in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The method includes receiving user-specified parameters regarding the network. The parameters can include a layout of a building or other space, and requirements for the WLAN. An algorithm then employs these parameters to automatically create and optimized layout of multiple wireless access points for the WLAN. The method can display the layout and provide various types of information to the user.
Claims15
A method, comprising:
- receiving a layout of a physical area in which to establish a wireless local area network comprising one or more wireless network protocols;
- receiving user-specified parameters associated with the wireless local area network, the user-specified parameters defining a region within the physical area corresponding to at least one of the wireless network protocols;
- digitizing the region into a grid having coordinates;
- and automatically determining coordinates on the grid corresponding to respective physical locations in the region where one or more backhaul nodes can be located to comply with the user-specified parameters and to connect said wireless local area network to an external wired network;
- responsive to automatically determining coordinates on the grid corresponding to a physical location in the region where the one or more backhaul nodes can be placed in accordance with the user-specified parameters, automatically determining coordinates on the grid corresponding to respective physical locations in the region where wireless access points can be placed to comply with the user-specified parameters to ensure sufficient throughput in said wireless access points.
A computer software product, comprising a computer-usable medium having computer readable instructions stored thereon for execution by a processor to perform a method comprising:
- receiving a layout of a physical area in which to establish a wireless local area network comprising one or more wireless network protocols;
- receiving user-specified parameters associated with the wireless local area network, said user-specified parameters defining a region within the physical area corresponding to at least one of the wireless network protocols;
- digitizing the region into a grid having coordinates;
- automatically determining coordinates on the grid corresponding to respective physical locations in the region where one or more backhaul nodes can be located to comply with the user-specified parameters and to connect said wireless local area network to an external wired network;
An apparatus, comprising:
- a processor;
- a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having computer-executable instructions stored thereon, which when executed by the processor, causes the processor to:
- receive a layout of a physical area in which to establish a wireless local area network comprising one or more wireless network protocols;
- receive user-specified parameters corresponding to the wireless local area network, said user-specified parameters defining a region within the physical area corresponding to at least one of the wireless network protocols;
- digitize the region into a grid having coordinates;
- and automatically determine coordinates on the grid corresponding to respective physical locations in the region where one or more backhaul nodes can be located to comply with the user-specified parameters and to connect said wireless local area network to an external wired network;
