Methods of using biometric data in a phone system and apparatuses to perform the methods

A method comprising:

• receiving, at a set-top box device, biometric data of a particular user from a biometric input device that has been activated, wherein the biometric input device is activated by the set-top box device in response to an activation event wherein the activation event includes activation of a phone terminal communicatively coupled to the set-top box device;
• determining whether an identification of the particular user matches the biometric data;
• and
• in response to determining that the identification of the particular user matches the biometric data, providing a service to a communication device associated with the particular user.

A computer-readable storage device comprising

• instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
• receiving, at a sat-top box device, biometric data of a particular user from a biometric input device, wherein the biometric input device is activated by the set-top box device in response to an activation event wherein the activation event includes activation of a phone terminal communicatively coupled to the set-top box device;
• determining whether an identification of the particular user matches the biometric data;
• and
• in response to determining that the identification matches the biometric data, providing a communication service.
