A gateway controller for processing a request message, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a computer-readable medium storing a plurality of instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
• receiving the request message in a first format for a multi-media service and translating the request message in the first format into a request message in a second format;
• forwarding the request message in the second format to a switching device for translating the request message in the second format into a request message in a third format;
• receiving a media server instruction message in the second format, and mapping interactive voice response message set information from the media server instruction message in the second format into a media server instruction message in the first format;
• and
• forwarding the media server instruction message in the first format including the interactive voice response message set information to a media server for forming a multi-media communication path with a communication device.
