Abstract
A method for authoring and sending from a network element and receiving at a mobile device, rich media, the sending having the steps of checking whether the rich media includes discrete content; if yes, sending a low resolution version of the discrete content with the rich media; and subsequently sending a higher resolution version of the rich media. The receiving having the steps of receiving a low resolution version of the discrete content in the rich media; rendering the rich media; receiving a higher resolution fragment of the discrete content; and incrementally applying the higher resolution fragments to the low resolution version of the discrete content.
Claims32
A network element comprising:
- a processor configured to send, when rich media includes a discrete content item:
- a low resolution version of the discrete content item as part of the rich media;
- a fragment of the discrete content item after a non-zero predetermined period subsequent to the low resolution version of the discrete content item being sent;
- wherein the fragment is configured to increase resolution of the low resolution version.
A mobile device comprising:
- a communications subsystem configured to receive rich media that includes discrete content item;
- and
- a processor operably coupled to the communications subsystem and configured to:
- render the rich media including a low resolution version of the discrete content item;
- receive a fragment of the discrete content item after a non-zero predetermined time following the rendering of the low resolution version;
- and
- increment the low resolution version of the discrete content item with the fragment of the discrete content item.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions which cause a computing device to execute the operations of:
- determining whether rich media includes a discrete content item;
- first sending, relative to the determining, a low resolution version of the discrete content item as part of the rich media;
- and
- second sending a fragment of the discrete content item after a non-zero predetermined period subsequent to the first sending;
- wherein the fragment is configured to increase resolution of the low resolution version.
