Abstract
The present invention relates to a catalyst. The catalyst is used for converting acetic acid to ethanol. The catalyst comprises platinum, tin, a base metal selected from calcium and/or tungsten and a promoter metal selected from barium, potassium and/or cesium.
Claims20
A process for formation of ethanol from acetic acid comprising:
- contacting a feed stream containing acetic acid and hydrogen at an elevated temperature with a hydrogenating catalyst comprising platinum, tin, at least one base metal, and at least one promoter metal on a support, wherein the base metal is selected from the group consisting of calcium, tungsten and mixtures thereof, and the promoter metal is selected from the group consisting of barium, potassium, cesium and mixtures thereof.
A hydrogenation catalyst for converting acetic acid to ethanol, the catalyst comprising platinum, tin, at least one base metal, and at least one promoter metal on a support, wherein the base metal is selected from the group consisting of calcium and tungsten, and mixtures thereof, and the promoter metal is selected from the group consisting of barium, potassium, cesium and mixtures thereof.
