## CPC

- H04N 19/573: Motion compensation with multiple frame prediction using two or more reference frames in a given prediction direction
- H04N 19/50: using predictive coding (H04N19/61 takes precedence)
- H04N 19/597: specially adapted for multi-view video sequence encoding
- H04N 19/70: characterised by syntax aspects related to video coding, e.g. related to compression standards
- H04N 19/176: the region being a block, e.g. a macroblock
- H04N 19/61: in combination with predictive coding
- H04N: PICTORIAL COMMUNICATION, e.g. TELEVISION

## Abstract

The method includes receiving a multi-view video stream including a random access picture, which includes a random access slice. Type information indicating whether the random access slice is predicted from one or two reference pictures is obtained, and a reference picture list is initialized using view number information and view identification information included in obtained initialization information according to the type information. The initialized reference picture list is modified based on modification information representing how to assign an inter-view reference index in the initialized reference picture list. A prediction value of a macroblock in the random access picture is determined based on the modified reference picture list.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A video medium player, comprising:
a receiving unit configured to receive a multi-view video signal including a random access picture including a random access slice, the random access slice referencing only a slice corresponding to a same time and a different view of the random access picture, the multi-view video signal being transmitted as a digitally-encoded signal;
a digital signal processing unit configured to decode a target video signal from the multi-view video signal, and configured to,
obtain a random access flag for inter-view prediction, the random access flag indicating whether a coded picture is the random access picture;
obtain initialization information of a reference picture list for the random access slice based on the random access flag, the initialization information representing a reference relation between a plurality of views, the initialization information including view number information and view identification information, the view number information indicating a number of reference views of the random access picture, and the view identification information providing a view identifier of each reference view for the random access picture;
initialize the reference picture list by assigning an inter-view reference index to a reference picture using the view number information and the view identification information;
obtain a difference value from the multi-view video signal, the difference value representing a difference between inter-view reference indices in the initialized reference picture list;
determine an assignment modification value for changing the inter-view reference index in the initialized reference picture list based on the difference value;
modify the initialized reference picture list for inter-view prediction, wherein the modifying includes reordering the reference picture by changing the inter-view reference index assigned to the reference picture based on the determined assignment modification value;
determine a prediction value of a macroblock in the random access picture based on the modified reference picture list; and
decode the macroblock using the prediction value,
wherein the initialization information is obtained based on a value indicating decoding order between the plurality of views;
a D/A converter configured to convert the target video signal into an analog video signal; and
a display unit configured to output the analog video signal.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The video medium player of claim 1, wherein the multi-view video signal includes video data of a base view independent of other views, the base view being a view decoded without using inter-view prediction.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The video medium player of claim 1, wherein the difference value is obtained from a slice header.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The video medium player of claim 1, wherein the determined assignment modification value is used to assign the changed inter-view reference index to the random access picture in the initialized reference picture list.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The video medium player of claim 1, wherein the position of any other remaining pictures are shifted to later in the initialized reference picture list.
