## Abstract

A printing system and method include analyzing a plurality of properties of a document, and for each of a plurality of ink sets, calculating a metric for each of the properties.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A printing system, comprising:
a printer;
a plurality of ink sets available to the printer; and
a processor configured to analyze a plurality of properties of a document, and for each of the ink sets, calculate respective metrics for each of the properties, and in response to the metrics and user preference, select one of the ink sets.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The printing system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to rank the ink sets in response to the metrics.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The printing system of claim 1, wherein the printer is configured to print the document using the selected ink set.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The printing system of claim 1, wherein the printer and the processor are connected by a network.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The printing system of claim 1, further comprising a memory accessible by the processor, the memory storing weight factors for the plurality of properties, wherein the processor is configured to select one of the ink sets further in response to the weight factors.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The printing system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to select first and second ones of the ink sets in response to the metrics; and
wherein the printing system further comprises first and second printers configured to print the document using the first and second selected ink sets, respectively.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The printing system of claim 1, further comprising a display device configured to display the calculated metrics.

### Claim 8

A printing method, comprising:
analyzing a plurality of properties of a document;
for each of a plurality of ink sets available to a printer, calculating respective metrics for each of the properties; and
selecting one of the ink sets in response to the metrics and user preference.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, further comprising ranking the ink sets in response to the metrics.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, further comprising:
printing the document using the selected ink set.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, further comprising:
assigning respective weight factors to each of the properties; and
selecting one of the ink sets further in response to the weight factors.

### Claim 12 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein the properties include gray neutrality.

### Claim 13 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein the properties include illumination sensitivity.

### Claim 14 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein the properties include out-of-gamut colors.

### Claim 15 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein the properties include pantone colors.

### Claim 16 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein the properties include productivity.

### Claim 17 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein the properties include cost.

### Claim 18

A non-transitory computer readable medium storing process instructions that when executed perform a printing method comprising:
analyzing a plurality of properties of a document; and
for each of a plurality of ink sets available to a printer, calculating respective metrics for each of the properties;
selecting one of the ink sets in response to the metrics and user preference; and
printing the document by the printer using the selected ink set.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 18, wherein the non-transitory computer readable medium stores respective weight factors for each of the properties, and wherein the method further comprises:
selecting one of the ink sets further in response to the weight factors.
