## Abstract

The invention provides cell-permeable peptides that bind to JNK proteins and inhibit JNK-mediated effects in JNK-expressing cells.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A peptide consisting of an amino acid sequence that is at least 95% identical to an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of the amino acid sequences SEQ ID NO:23, the amino acid sequence of TDQSRPVQPFLNLTTPRKPR in which all of the amino acids are in the D configuration, and the amino acid sequence of TDQSRPVQPFLNLTTPRKPRPPRRRQRRKKRG in which all of the amino acids are in the D configuration, wherein the peptide directly inhibits at least one c-Jun amino terminal kinase (JNK) protein.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The peptide of claim 1, wherein the peptide is at least 95% identical to the amino acid sequence TDQSRPVQPFLNLTTPRKPRPPRRRQRRKKRG, in which all of the amino acids are in the D configuration.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The peptide of claim 1, wherein the peptide is selected from the group consisting of the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 23, the amino acid sequence TDQSRPVQPFLNLTTPRKPR in which all of the amino acids are in the D configuration, or the amino acid sequence TDQSRPVQPFLNLTTPRKPRPPRRRQRRKKRG in which all of the amino acids are in the D configuration.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1, 2, 3)

A pharmaceutical composition comprising the peptide of any of claims 1-3 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The pharmaceutical composition of claim 4 that is formulated for administration by a route selected from a group consisting of intrauricular, intraperitoneal, nasal, intravenous, oral and patch delivery.
