Abstract
A marker for determining the onset of periodontal disease and a marker far determining the progression stage of periodontal disease, each containing autoinducer-2.
Claims9
A method of selecting an agent that improves periodontal disease, comprising:
- (a) mixing a bacterium having an autoinducer-2-mediated quorum sensing system and autoinducer-2 in the presence and absence of a test substance;
- (b) measuring the autoinducer-2 activity produced in the presence and absence of said test substance from (a);
- and
- (c) selecting said test substance as an agent that improves periodontal disease if the autoinducer-2 activity in the presence of said test substance is 29.6% or less of the autoinducer-2 activity in the absence of said test substance.
