## Abstract

The present invention is directed to a novel poly (diol citrates)-based bioceramic composite materials created using completely biodegradable and a bioceramic material polymers that may be used in implantable devices. More specifically, the specification describes methods and compositions for making and using bioceramic composites comprised of citric acid copolymers and a bioceramic material.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A composition comprising a composite of:
a) a polyester consisting of one or more linear aliphatic diol monomers and a citric acid monomer;
b) a bioceramic used for implantable tissue devices, wherein said composition comprises said bioceramic in an amount of 55% wt % to 75 wt %.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the linear aliphatic diol monomer comprises between about 2 and about 20 carbons.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the polyester comprises repeating units of the same linear aliphatic diol monomer.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The composition of claim 3, wherein the linear aliphatic diol is 1,8-octanediol.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The composition of claim 4, wherein the polyester is poly 1,8-octanediol co-citric acid.

### Claim 6 (depends on 3)

The composition of claim 3, wherein the polyester is poly 1,10 decanediol co-citric acid.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the polyester comprises repeating units of different linear aliphatic diol monomers.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein said bioceramic is selected from the group consisting of calcium phosphate bioceramics, aluminabased bioceramics; zirconia-based bioceramics; silica-based bioceramics, and pyrolytic carbon-based bioceramics.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The composition of claim 8, wherein said bioceramic is a calcium phosphate bioceramic.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The composition of claim 9, wherein said bioceramic is hydroxyapatite (HA).

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The composition of claim 10, wherein said HA is present in an amount of at least 60 wt %.
