Abstract
A smart link in a power delivery system includes an insulator, which electrically isolates a power line, and a switchable conductance placed in parallel with the insulator. The switchable conductance includes switchgear for sourcing, sinking, and/or dispatching real and/or reactive power on the power line to dynamically in response to dynamic loading, transient voltages and/or currents, and phase conditions or other conditions on the power line.

A power delivery system component, comprising:
- at least one insulator;
- at least one inductor in series with the at least one insulator;
- wherein the component is configured to electrically isolate a high voltage power transmission line;
- and
- wherein at least portions of the at least one inductor and the at least one insulator are co-disposed in a common physical structure.
A power delivery system component, comprising:
- at least one insulator;
- and
- a reactive circuit in series with the at least one insulator;
- wherein the component is configured to electrically isolate a high voltage power transmission line with an end of the at least one insulator opposite the reactive circuit connected to the high voltage power transmission line;
- and
- wherein at least a portion of the reactive circuit is co-disposed with the at least one insulator in a common physical structure.
A power delivery system, comprising:
- a high voltage power transmission line;
- at least one insulator;
- a reactive circuit in series with the at least one insulator;
- wherein the at least one insulator and the reactive circuit in series are configured to electrically isolate the high voltage power transmission line;
- and
- wherein at least a portion of the reactive circuit is co-disposed with the at least one insulator in a common physical structure.
