A method of preparing activated carbon, is disclosed, comprising: exposing carbonaceous material to microwave radiation in the presence of water to produce activated carbon.

A method of preparing activated carbon, comprising:
- exposing carbonaceous material to microwave radiation in the presence of water to produce activated carbon, wherein the carbonaceous material comprises petroleum coke, delayed coke or fluid coke.
