Abstract
A solid state image sensor includes an extracting unit including a plurality of pixels, each having an optical waveguide formed by a core and a clad for guiding incident light entering the pixel to a photoelectric converter section via the core. The extracting unit is formed by at least two pixels including a first pixel and a second pixel and the cores in the optical waveguides of the first and second pixels are designed to show an oblate cross section and arranged with their respective major axes disposed in different directions.
Claims14
A solid state image sensor that has an extracting unit comprising a plurality of pixels, each having an optical waveguide formed by a core and a clad for guiding incident light entering a pixel to a photoelectric converter section via the core,
- the extracting unit being formed by at least two pixels including a first pixel and a second pixel, cores in optical waveguides of the first and second pixels being designed to show an oblate cross section and arranged with their respective major axes disposed in different directions;
- the extracting unit being designed to show a light-receiving efficiency varying as a function of polarization state of incident light entering the first and second pixels.
