Abstract
A method and apparatus for rapidly discovering unknown or unmanaged portions of network using hints defining possible transport layer infrastructure topology and the like.
Claims20
A method for managing a network, the network including managed network elements and unknown network portions, the method comprising:
- identifying a path supported by one or more unknown network portions;
- applying at least a first hint to determine a topology associated with said one or more unknown network portions;
- and
- if a confidence level associated with said determined topology exceeds a threshold level, storing, in a non-transitory computer readable storage medium, data representing at least a portion of network element information and network element connections information of said determined topology.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform steps for managing a network, the network including managed network elements and unknown network portions, the steps comprising:
- identifying a path supported by one or more unknown network portions;
- applying at least a first hint to determine a topology associated with said one or more unknown network portions;
- and
- if a confidence level associated with said determined topology exceeds a threshold level, storing, in a computer readable memory, data representing at least a portion of network element information and network element connections information of said determined topology.
Apparatus for managing a network, the network including managed network elements and unknown network portions, the apparatus comprising:
- a memory storing instructions;
- and
- a processor communicatively connected to the memory, wherein the processor is configured to execute the instructions for:
- identifying a path supported by one or more unknown network portions;
- applying at least a first hint to determine a topology associated with said one or more unknown network portions;
- and
- if a confidence level associated with said determined topology exceeds a threshold level, storing, in the memory, data representing at least a portion of network element information and network element connections information of said determined topology.
