Abstract
Provided are compositions containing a compatible mixture of a cationic surfactant and an anionic surfactant. A composition according to the invention comprises: (a) a first surfactant of formula I: wherein R, R1, R2, and R3 Y, X, and n are as defined below; (b) a second surfactant that is oppositely charged to the first surfactant.

A composition comprising:
- (a) a first surfactant of formula I:
- wherein R is linear or branched C2-C22 alkyl;
- R1, R2, and R3 are independently H or linear or branched C1-C18 alkyl;
- Y is SO3− or N+R4R5R6;
- R4, R5, and R6 are independently C1-C4 alkyl, aryl-C1-C4 alkyl, or R4 and R5, together with the nitrogen to which they are attached, form a ring containing 3-9 carbon atoms;
- X is a monovalent or divalent ion;
- n is an integer such that the total ionic charge provided by Xn is 2;
- and
- (b) a second surfactant that is oppositely charged to the first surfactant.
