Abstract
The present invention relates in general to a method for obtaining particulate calcium carbonate and activated carbon particles and methods for using same, and more particularly, to a method for obtaining activated carbon particles having an average particle size less than about 12 microns from a pulp mill.
Claims4
A method for producing a form of activated carbon, the method comprising the steps of:
- withdrawing from a pulp mill a first mixture containing calcium carbonate and carbon particles;
- treating the mixture with a concentrated acid selected from the group consisting of hydrochloric acid, muriatic acid, hydrobromic acid, and mixtures thereof, to thereby dissolve the calcium carbonate and produce a slurry composition containing activated carbon particles having an average particle size of less than about 12 microns.
