Abstract
The present invention is directed to novel polypeptides designated herein as EG-VEGF and to nucleic acid molecules encoding those polypeptides. Also provided herein are vectors and host cells comprising those nucleic acid sequences, chimeric polypeptide molecules comprising the polypeptides of the present invention fused to heterologous polypeptide sequences, antibodies which bind to the polypeptides of the present invention and to methods for producing the polypeptides of the present invention. Also provided herein are methods of screening for modulators of EG-VEGF. Furthermore, methods and related methods of treatment are described herein which pertain to regulating cellular proliferation and chemotaxis.
Claims23
A method of therapeutically treating an individual for a condition associated with overproliferation of steroidogenic endothelial cells within an endocrine gland or excessive angiogenesis in an endocrine gland, said method comprising administering to said individual a composition comprising an antagonist of an EG-VEGF polypeptide in an amount effective to treat said condition,
- wherein the EG-VEGF polypeptide comprises amino acid residues 20 to 105 of SEQ ID NO:2, and
- wherein the antagonist is an antibody or a fragment thereof that specifically binds to the EG-VEGF polypeptide.
A method of therapeutically treating cancer or tumor in steroidogenic endothelial cells within an endocrine gland in an individual, said method comprising administering an antagonist of the EG-VEGF polypeptide to said individual in an amount effective to treat cancer or tumor,
- wherein the EG-VEGF polypeptide comprises amino acid residues 20 to 105 of SEQ ID NO:2, and
- wherein the antagonist is an antibody or a fragment thereof that specifically binds to the EG-VEGF polypeptide.
A method of therapeutically treating cancer or tumor of the reproductive organs in an individual, comprising administering an antagonist of an EG-VEGF polypeptide to said individual in an amount effective to inhibit cancer or tumor,
- wherein the EG-VEGF polypeptide comprises amino acid residues 20 to 105 of SEQ ID NO:2, and
- wherein the antagonist is an antibody or a fragment thereof that specifically binds to the EG-VEGF polypeptide.
A method of inhibiting proliferation of steroidogenic endothelial cells within an endocrine gland or angiogenesis in an endocrine gland in an individual with a condition associated with the endocrine gland, said method comprising administering to said individual a composition comprising an effective amount of an antagonist of an EG-VEGF polypeptide,
- wherein the EG-VEGF polypeptide comprises amino acid residues 20 to 105 of SEQ ID NO:2, and
- wherein the antagonist is an antibody or a fragment thereof that specifically binds to the EG-VEGF polypeptide.
