Abstract
This invention provides molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for the detection of analytes, methods for forming the MIPs and detecting the analyte using the MIPs. The MIP comprises templated sites which are formed using a mimic of the analyte such that a reporter compound can be selectively attached at the templated sites, thus providing a site selectively tagged and templated MIP.
Claims13
A molecularly imprinted polymer for detecting the presence of an analyte comprising:
- at least one templated site which is capable of selectively binding said analyte, said templated site bearing exposed reactive groups needed to selectively bind the analyte, and at least one reporter molecule,
- wherein the reporter molecules in the polymer are exclusively present at the templated sites.
A method for detecting the presence of an analyte in a test sample comprising the steps of:
- a) contacting the test sample with a site selectively tagged molecularly imprinted polymer which has at least one template site which is capable of selectively binding the analyte, said templated site bearing exposed reactive groups needed to selectively bind the analyte and at least one reporter molecule, wherein the reporter molecules in the polymer are exclusively present at the template sites;
- b) detecting a change in the emission from the reporter molecule upon exposure to the test sample,
- wherein a change in the emission from the reporter molecule indicates the presence of the analyte in the test sample.
