Glenoid augment and associated method

A method of performing shoulder arthroplasty comprising the steps of:

• forming a buttress-shaped recess in a portion of the patient's glenoid surface of a scapula;
• using a base glenoid component having a glenoid contacting surface configured to contact the portion of the glenoid surface of the patient's scapula, a connecting surface spaced from the glenoid contacting surface, and a buttress surface for cooperation with the buttress-shaped recess, wherein the base glenoid component includes a securing feature;
• securing said base glenoid component to the patient's glenoid surface of the scapula with the securing feature such that the glenoid contacting surface is positioned in contact with the patient's glenoid surface of the scapula, and the buttress surface is positioned against the buttress-shaped recess;
• using a bearing component removably secured to said base glenoid component, said bearing component including an assembly surface thereof and an opposed articulating surface configured to be contacted by the patient's head portion of the humerus, the assembly surface including a mounting surface sized and shaped to cooperate with the patient's glenoid fossa;
• and
• securing said bearing component to said base glenoid component such that the articulating surface is positioned to be contacted by the patient's head portion of the humerus and a portion of the assembly surface of said bearing component is positioned against the connecting surface of said base glenoid component and the mounting surface extends beyond the connecting surface of said base glenoid component and extends into an anterior position of the patient's scapula.
