Abstract
A method of automatic calibration in which the simulation adapts itself to more closely resemble the actual network is provided. For a given network architecture and a probabilistic customer usage profile a simulation provides an estimate of key performance metrics. These simulated metrics are compared against actual measurements from the network. To the extent that they do not match within a prescribed tolerance, an iterative adaptive calibration procedure is used to perturb slightly the probabilistic model of network usage.
Claims17
A method for automatically calibrating a wireless CDMA-based simulation model against an actual wireless network comprising:
- (a) estimating the initial footprint of each sector in the simulation model based on actual wireless network measurements of loading at each sector and actual wireless network equipment settings for power allocation to a pilot channel at each sector inputted from the actual wireless network;
- (b) determining an intended number of users at each sector based on reported level of traffic at each sector in the actual wireless network;
- (c) creating random instantiations of the intended number of users in each sector initial footprint in the simulation model;
- (d) determining a resultant power loading in each sector averaged across distributions of the instantiations of users;
- (e) determining a number of surviving users in each sector averaged across distributions of the instantiations of users;
- (f) adjusting bit energy to noise and interference power spectral ratio (Eb/No) requirements with an additive offset Eb/No bias;
- (g) performing step (d) through (f) repeatedly until convergence is reached;
- (h) adjusting a geographic distribution of traffic demand in each sector in the simulation model;
- and
- (i) performing step (a) through (h) repeatedly until convergence is reached.
