Abstract
The invention provides a method of detecting neoplastic or neurological disorders comprising exposing skin or nails to X-ray diffraction and detecting changes in the ultrastructure of the skin or nails, and also provides an instrument when used in the method of detection.

A method of detecting neoplastic disorders in a subject, the method comprising exposing a skin sample of the subject to fiber x-ray diffraction, and detecting changes in the ultra-structure of the skin wherein the neoplastic disorder is prostate cancer or melanoma.
A method of detecting neoplastic or neurological disorders in a subject, the method comprising exposing a fingernail sample of the subject to fiber x-ray diffraction, and detecting changes in the ultra-structure of the fingernail wherein the neoplastic disorder is one or more of breast cancer and colon cancer and the neurological disorder is Alzheimer's disease.
