## Abstract

Atrial fibrillation (AF) can be treated or prevented by administering to a subject who suffers from or is at risk of suffering from AF a composition comprised of an amount of an active agent, which is 4-methoxy-N-(3,5-bis(1-pyrrolidinyl)-4-hydroxy benzyl)benzene sulfonamide (sulcardine) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, such that the Cmax value the active agent in the subject is in the range from about 1 μM to about 20 μM.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of treating atrial fibrillation (AF), comprising administering to a subject who suffers from or is at risk of suffering from AF a composition comprised of an amount of an active agent that is 4-methoxy-N-(3,5-bis-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-4-hydroxy benzyl)benzene sulfonamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, such that the maximum steady state plasma concentration (Cmax) of said active agent in said subject is in the range from about 1 μM to about 20 μM.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein said Cmax is in the range from about 2 μM to about 10 μM.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the amount of said active agent is in the range from about 3 mg/kg to about 30 mg/kg.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method according to claim 3, wherein the amount of said active agent is in the range from about 5 mg/kg to about 10 mg/kg.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein said active agent is 4-methoxy-N-(3,5-bis-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-4-hydroxy benzyl)benzene sulfonamide sulfate.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein said composition further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method according to claim 6, wherein said pharmaceutically acceptable excipient is selected from the group consisting of a buffer, a diluent, a stabilizer and combinations thereof.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein said administering is by means of intramuscular injection, intravenous injection, subcutaneous injection, or oral, transdermal, inhalation, rectal, sublingual, buccal, intravaginal or nasal administration.

### Claim 9 (depends on 2)

The method according claim 2, wherein said active agent is 4-methoxy-N-(3,5-bis-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-4-hydroxy benzyl)benzene sulfonamide sulfate.

### Claim 10 (depends on 3)

The method according claim 3, wherein said active agent is 4-methoxy-N-(3,5-bis-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-4-hydroxy benzyl)benzene sulfonamide sulfate.

### Claim 11 (depends on 4)

The method according claim 4, wherein said active agent is 4-methoxy-N-(3,5-bis-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-4-hydroxy benzyl)benzene sulfonamide sulfate.

### Claim 12 (depends on 2)

The method according to claim 2, wherein said composition further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.

### Claim 13 (depends on 3)

The method according to claim 3, wherein said composition further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.

### Claim 14 (depends on 4)

The method according to claim 4, wherein said composition further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
