## Abstract

A lead-carbon compound that is a reaction product of lead and carbon, wherein the lead and the carbon form a single phase material that is meltable. The compound is one in which the carbon does not phase separate from the lead when the single phase material is heated to a melting temperature.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A metal-carbon composition comprising:
lead and carbon, wherein the lead and the carbon form a single phase material formed by mixing carbon into the lead while molten under conditions that chemically react the lead and the carbon, and wherein the single phase material is meltable and the carbon does not phase separate from the lead when the single phase material is subsequently re-melted.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 1 wherein the lead is from a lead alloy, the lead is bonded to the carbon and the composition includes the remaining alloying elements or impurities of the lead alloy.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 1 wherein the carbon comprises about 0.01 to about 40 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 1 wherein the carbon comprises at least about 1 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 1 wherein the carbon comprises at least about 5 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 1 wherein the carbon comprises at most about 10 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 1 wherein the carbon comprises at most about 25 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 1 further comprising an additive that imparts a change to a physical or mechanical property of the composition.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 1 wherein the carbon is a high surface area carbon.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 9 wherein the high surface area carbon is a powdered carbon.

### Claim 11

A metal-carbon composition consisting essentially of
lead and carbon, wherein the lead and the carbon form a single phase material formed by mixing carbon into the lead while molten under conditions that chemically react the lead and the carbon, and wherein the single phase material is meltable and the carbon does not phase separate from the lead when the single phase material is subsequently re-melted.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 11 wherein the lead is from a lead alloy, the lead is bonded to the carbon and the composition includes the remaining alloying elements or impurities of the lead alloy.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 11 wherein the carbon comprises about 0.01 to about 40 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 11 wherein the carbon comprises at least about 1 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 11 wherein the carbon comprises at least about 5 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 16 (depends on 11)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 11 wherein the carbon comprises at most about 10 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 11 wherein the carbon comprises at most about 25 percent by weight of the material.

### Claim 18 (depends on 11)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 11 wherein the carbon is a high surface area carbon.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The metal-carbon composition of claim 18 wherein the high surface area carbon is a powdered carbon.

### Claim 20

A lead-carbon compound comprising:
a reaction product of lead and carbon that is a single phase material, wherein the single phase material is meltable, and the carbon does not phase separate from the lead when the single phase material is subsequently re-melted.
