## Abstract

A microfiber extrudate and delivery process includes a bio-compatible polymer matrix forming a body of the microfiber extrudate, an exogenously excitable material arranged within the body, and an active load arranged within the body.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A microfiber extrudate delivery process comprising:
identifying a region in an animal;
medically administering a microfiber extrudate to the region in the animal, the microfiber extrudate comprising:
a bio-compatible polymer matrix forming a body of the microfiber extrudate;
a material arranged within the microfiber extrudate body; and
an active load arranged as a discrete domain within the microfiber extrudate body; and thereafter
applying exogenous stimulus to the region in the animal from outside of the animal, thereby releasing the active load from the microfiber extrudate body into the region in the animal;
wherein the step of applying exogenous stimulus to the material to release the active load comprises applying an exogenous stimulus selected from the group consisting of radiofrequency excitation, microwave excitation, terahertz excitation, mid infrared excitation, near infrared excitation, visible excitation, ultraviolet excitation, x-irradiation excitation, magnetic excitation, electron beam irradiation excitation, and combinations thereof;
wherein the material is a superparamagnetic iron oxide nano-particle.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the step of medically administering comprises medically administering a microfiber extrudate having a diameter of less than about 110 micrometers.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the medically administered microfiber extrudate comprises the material arranged in at least one discrete domain.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the medically administered microfiber extrudate has a size and geometry substantially similar to a red blood cell or white blood cell.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the medically administered microfiber extrudate is disc-shaped.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the medically administered microfiber extrudate has a transverse thickness of less than about 12 micrometers.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the active load of the medically administered microfiber extrudate comprises an active pharmaceutical ingredient.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The delivery process of claim 7, wherein the active pharmaceutical ingredient includes acetaminophen.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the active load of the medically administered microfiber extrudate comprises an antibody.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the active load of the medically administered microfiber extrudate comprises an anti-VEGH.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the material of the medically administered microfiber extrudate is a radiosensitive chemotherapeutic agent.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the active load of the medically administered microfiber extrudate is a non-radiosensitive chemotherapeutic agent.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The delivery process of claim 1, wherein the bio-compatible polymer matrix of the medically administered microfiber extrudate comprises a polyglycolide copolymer.

### Claim 14

A microfiber extrudate delivery process comprising:
identifying a region in a human;
medically administering a microfiber extrudate to the region in the human, the microfiber extrudate comprising:
a polyglycolide copolymer base bio-compatible polymer matrix forming a body of the microfiber extrudate;
a paramagnetic material arranged within the microfiber extrudate body; and
an active pharmaceutical ingredient arranged as a discrete domain within the microfiber extrudate body; and thereafter
applying radio-frequency stimulation to the region in the human from outside of the human to stimulate the paramagnetic material and release the active load from the microfiber extrudate body into the region in the human;
wherein the microfiber extrudate is constructed from a micro-extrusion fiber spinning process;
wherein the step of applying exogenous stimulus to the material to release the active load comprises applying an exogenous stimulus selected from the group consisting of radiofrequency excitation, microwave excitation, terahertz excitation, mid infrared excitation, near infrared excitation, visible excitation, ultraviolet excitation, x-irradiation excitation, magnetic excitation, electron beam irradiation excitation, and combinations thereof;
wherein the material is a superparamagnetic iron oxide nano-particle.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The microfiber extrudate delivery process of claim 14, wherein the medically administered microfiber extrudate further comprises an anti-body.
