Abstract
In some implementations, a computer-implemented method of displaying alert information with a mobile communication device includes displaying device status indicators to a user of a mobile device in a status area; receiving information from an application to display an alert in the status area; displaying in the status area a first level of information for the alert and a user-selectable control; and displaying, in response to a selection of the user-selectable control, a second level of information for the alert that provides greater detail than the first level of information.
Claims22
A computer-implemented method for displaying alert information, the method comprising:
- in a mobile computing device having a touch-sensitive display screen, displaying one or more device status indicators in a status area that is distinct from an application area where applications executing on the computing device are displayed;
- receiving information that identifies an occurrence of an alert associated with the computing device;
- displaying, in the status area, a first level of information for the alert and a user-selectable control, wherein:
- the first level of information includes text from the alert,
- the user-selectable control is displayed in a same region of the status area where the first level of information is displayed,
- the user-selectable control is displayed at the location after the first level of information is no longer displayed in the status area;
- displaying, in response to user selection input selecting the user-selectable control, a second level of information for the alert that provides greater detail than the first level of information, wherein the user selection input is received through user contact with the touch-sensitive display screen;
- and
- in response to additional user selection input that corresponds to the second level of information, activating an application associated with the received information, wherein the application, upon being activated, presents a third level of information for the alert that provides greater detail than the first level or second level of information, wherein the additional user selection input is received through user contact with the touch-sensitive display screen.

- displaying device status indicators in a status area on a display of a computing device, the status area being distinct from an application area in which are displayed applications executing on the computing device;
- receiving information that identifies an occurrence of an alert associated with the computing device;
- displaying, in the status area, a first level of information for the alert and a user-selectable control, wherein:
- the first level of information includes text from the alert,
- the user-selectable control is displayed in a same region of the status area where the first level of information is displayed,
- the user-selectable control is displayed at the location after the first level of information is no longer displayed in the status area;
- and
- displaying, in response to a selection of the user-selectable control, a second level of information for the alert that provides greater detail than the first level of information.

A computer-implemented mobile device alert management system, comprising:
- an interface configured to receive status alert information on a mobile computing device;
- an alert management module configured to receive the status alert information from the interface and provide multiple levels of detail of the status alert information;
- and
- a display module configured to receive the multiple levels of detail of the status alert information and to display, to a user of the mobile computing device, at least a first level of detail of the status alert information in a device display status area of a mobile computing device, wherein:
- the device display status area is distinct from an application area where applications executing on the computing device are displayed,
- the first level of detail includes text from a particular alert, and
- the display module is configured to display a user-selectable control in a same region of the status area where the first level of information is displayed and to maintain a display of the user-selectable control at the location after the first level of information is no longer displayed in the status area.

- an interface configured to receive status alert information on a mobile computing device;
- an alert management means for receiving the status alert information from the interface and providing multiple levels of detail of the status alert information;
- and
- a display module configured to receive the multiple levels of detail of the status alert information and to display, to a user of the mobile computing device, at least a first level of detail of the status alert information in a device display status area of the mobile computing device, wherein:
- the device display status area is distinct from an application area where applications executing on the computing device are displayed,
- the first level of detail includes text from a particular alert, and
- the display module is configured to display a user-selectable control in a same region of the status area where the first level of information is displayed and to maintain a display of the user-selectable control at the location after the first level of information is no longer displayed in the status area.
