Abstract
Contention for a resource in a multi-resource system is resolved by separately resolving contention for each resource. In some cases where two or more entities contending for a resource are associated with equal priorities, lexicographic ordering is used to resolve contention between these entities. In some cases where two or more entities contending for a resource are associated with equal priorities, a random probability-based scheme is used to resolve contention between these entities. Also, different types of schemes may be used to resolve contention for different resources.
Claims57
A method of wireless communication, comprising:
- Receiving, by a receiver, a plurality of resource utilization messages, each comprising an indication that identifies a plurality of resources;
- identifying, by a priority identifier, for each of the resources, priorities associated with the resource utilization messages;
- and
- resolving, by a contention resolver, for each of the resources, contention between the identified priorities, using a first contention resolution scheme based on lexicographic ordering associated with the resource utilization messages if two or more of the resource utilization messages have equal priority, for a first type of resource and a second contention resolution scheme based on a probability that is weighted by a number of highest priority resource utilization messages received for a given resource, for a second type of resource.
An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:
- means for receiving a plurality of resource utilization messages, each comprising an indication that identifies a plurality of resources;
- means for identifying, for each of the resources, priorities associated with the resource utilization messages;
- and
- means for resolving, for each of the resources, contention between the identified priorities, using a first contention resolution scheme based on lexicographic ordering associated with the resource utilization messages if two or more of the resource utilization messages have equal priority, for a first type of resource and a second contention resolution scheme based on a probability that is weighted by a number of highest priority resource utilization messages received for a given resource, for a second type of resource.
An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:
- a receiver configured to receive a plurality of resource utilization messages, each comprising an indication that identifies a plurality of resources;
- a priority identifier configured to identify, for each of the resources, priorities associated with the resource utilization messages;
- and
- a contention resolver configured to resolve, for each of the resources, contention between the identified priorities, using a first contention resolution scheme based on lexicographic ordering associated with the resource utilization messages if two or more of the resource utilization messages have equal priority, for a first type of resource and a second contention resolution scheme based on a probability that is weighted by a number of highest priority resource utilization messages received for a given resource, for a second type of resource.
A computer-program product for wireless communication, comprising:
- a non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with codes executable to:
- receive a plurality of resource utilization messages, each comprising an indication that identifies a plurality of resources;
- identify, for each of the resources, priorities associated with the resource utilization messages;
- and
- resolve, for each of the resources, contention between the identified priorities, using a first contention resolution scheme based on lexicographic ordering associated with the resource utilization messages if two or more of the resource utilization messages have equal priority, for a first type of resource and a second contention resolution scheme based on a probability that is weighted by a number of highest priority resource utilization messages received for a given resource, for a second type of resource.
An access point for wireless communication, comprising:
- an antenna;
- a receiver configured to receive a plurality of resource utilization messages via the antenna, each comprising an indication that identifies a plurality of resources;
- a priority identifier configured to identify, for each of the resources, priorities associated with the resource utilization messages;
- and
- a contention resolver configured to resolve, for each of the resources, contention between the identified priorities, using a first contention resolution scheme based on lexicographic ordering associated with the resource utilization messages if two or more of the resource utilization messages have equal priority, for a first type of resource and a second contention resolution scheme based on a probability that is weighted by a number of highest priority resource utilization messages received for a given resource, for a second type of resource.
An access terminal for wireless communication, comprising:
- a receiver configured to receive a plurality of resource utilization messages, each comprising an indication that identifies a plurality of resources;
- a priority identifier configured to identify, for each of the resources, priorities associated with the resource utilization messages;
- a contention resolver configured to resolve, for each of the resources, contention between the identified priorities, using a first contention resolution scheme based on lexicographic ordering associated with the resource utilization messages if two or more of the resource utilization messages have equal priority, for a first type of resource and a second contention resolution scheme based on a probability that is weighted by a number of highest priority resource utilization messages received for a given resource, for a second type of resource;
- and
- a user interface configured to output an indication of the identity of a resource of the plurality of resources based on data received via the resource.
