Abstract
A system and method switches a mobile device from a first wireless communication signal, to a second, different wireless communication signal to maintain or reestablish communication between the mobile device and a communication network. Switching occurs when the signal strength of the first wireless communication signal falls below a predefined threshold and a second communication signal is present.
Claims43
A method for switching a communication signal of a mobile device from a first wireless communication signal to a second wireless communication signal when a signal strength of the first wireless communication signal falls below a predefined threshold, comprising:
- determining, within the mobile device, the signal strength of the first wireless communication signal;
- comparing the signal strength to the predefined threshold;
- and
- switching the communication signal from the first communication signal to the second communication signal when the signal strength is less than the predefined threshold;
- wherein the first wireless communication signal and the second wireless communication signal originate from different types of transmitters.
A method for maintaining communication between a first wireless device a communication network, wherein the first wireless device communicates with the communication network via a second wireless device or a third communication device, comprising:
- determining a signal strength of a first wireless communication signal between the first and the second wireless devices;
- and
- when the signal strength is less that a threshold, establishing a wireless communication link between the first wireless device and the third wireless device, wherein the first wireless device communicates with the communication network via the third wireless device, and wherein the second and the third wireless devices are different types of wireless devices.
A mobile device for switching from a first wireless communication signal to a second wireless communication signal when the signal strength of the first wireless communication signal falls below a threshold, comprising:
- a processing unit;
- a communication device;
- machine readable instruction that are executed by processing unit, including,
- instructions for comparing the signal strength of the first wireless communication signal to the threshold,
- instructions for controlling the communication device to find a second wireless communication signal when the signal strength is less than the threshold, and
- instructions for controlling the communication device to switch from the first communication signal to the second communication signal;
- and
- a non-transitory memory for storing the machine readable instructions.
