Abstract
An inbred corn line, designated ML9, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of inbred corn line ML9, to the plants and plant parts of inbred corn line ML9 and to methods for producing a corn plant, either inbred or hybrid, by crossing inbred corn line ML9 with itself or another corn line. The invention further relates to methods for producing a corn plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic plants produced by that method and to methods for producing other inbred corn lines derived from inbred corn line ML9.
Claims27
A seed of inbred corn line designated ML9, wherein a representative sample of seed of said line was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-120137.
A corn plant, or a part thereof, having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of inbred line ML9, wherein a representative sample of seed of said line was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-120137.
A method for producing inbred corn line ML9, wherein a representative sample of seed of said line was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-120137, wherein the method comprises:
- a) planting a collection of seeds comprising seed of a hybrid, one of whose parents is inbred line ML9, said collection also comprising seed of said inbred;
- b) growing plants from said collection of seeds;
- c) identifying the plants having the physiological and morphological characteristics of inbred corn line ML9 as inbred parent plants;
- d) controlling pollination of said inbred parent plants in a manner which preserves the homozygosity of said inbred parent plant;
- and
- e) harvesting the resultant seed and thereby producing an inbred corn line having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of inbred corn line ML9.
A method of introducing a desired trait into inbred corn line ML9 wherein the method comprises:
- a) crossing the inbred line ML9 plants grown from the inbred line ML9 seed, wherein a representative sample of seed of said line was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-120137, with plants of another corn line that comprise one or more desired trait to produce progeny plants, wherein the one or more desired trait is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, male fertility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, disease resistance, waxy starch, water stress tolerance, increased amylose starch and increased digestibility;
- b) selecting progeny plants that have the one or more desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;
- c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the inbred corn line ML9 plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the one or more desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of inbred corn line ML9 listed in Table 1 to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and
- e) repeating steps (c) and (d) one or more times in succession to produce selected second or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired one or more traits and all the physiological and morphological characteristics of inbred corn line ML9 as listed in Table 1.
