A method of treating a human subject diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, comprising administering to the human subject a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising a piperidine alkaloid, wherein the piperidine alkaloid comprises the formula
- wherein R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic group having from 10 to 20 carbon atoms.
