Abstract
The present invention relates to cost-effective and environmentally friendly polyester surfactants for use in flotation deinking. The improved ink collection of the present invention can result in deinked pulp of high quality and/or yields that has excellent brightness and effective residual ink concentration values.
Claims20
A method of deinking printed waste paper that comprises ink and paper pulp, comprising:
- a) converting the printed waste paper to an aqueous pulp slurry in a repulper;
- b) contacting the aqueous pulp slurry with the addition of a composition comprising a polyester surfactant, the polyester surfactant consisting of a condensation esterification product of a) pentaerythritol, b) a dimer of a C18 acid, and c) polyethylene glycol and polypropylene glycol;
- c) separating the ink in the aqueous pulp slurry;
- and
- d) recovering deinked paper pulp from the aqueous pulp slurry.
A method of preparing a polyester surfactant comprising a step of mixing and reacting a) pentaerythritol, b) a dimer of a C18 acid, and c) polyethylene glycol and polypropylene glycol in a condensation esterification reaction, wherein the polyester surfactant consisting of a condensation esterification product of a) pentaerythritol, b) a dimer of a C18 acid, and c) polyethylene glycol and polypropylene glycol.
A method of removing adhesive impurities comprising stickies from printed waste paper during pulp making, comprising:
- a) converting the printed waste paper to an aqueous pulp slurry in a repulper;
- b) contacting the aqueous pulp slurry with the addition of a composition comprising a polyester surfactant, the polyester surfactant consisting of a condensation esterification product of a) pentaerythritol, b) a dimer of a C18 acid, and c) polyethylene glycol and polypropylene glycol;
- c) separating the stickies in the aqueous pulp slurry;
- and
- d) recovering the paper pulp from the aqueous pulp slurry that is free of stickies.
