Abstract
Endoscopic devices and methods used for fastening multiple tissue layers, such as, for example, an endoscopic fundoplication procedure, are disclosed. The endoluminal device includes a tissue fastener, a flexible needle having means for grasping and releasing a portion of the tissue fastener, and a deflector for deflecting and guiding the needle toward the multiple tissue layers.
Claims20
A surgical device for fastening multiple tissue layers, comprising:
- a fastener having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the proximal end is configured to receive the distal end to form a closed loop, and wherein the fastener includes a plurality of protrusions along its length, each protrusion configured to engage the proximal end to adjust the size of the loop;
- an elongate member configured to pierce tissue;
- and
- a guide portion for guiding the elongate member toward the multiple tissue layers;
- wherein the elongate member is configured to selectively engage and release a portion of the fastener.
