Abstract
A card activated cash dispensing automated banking machine is provided which includes a safe and at least a portion of a cash dispenser positioned within the safe. The cash dispenser includes an input device which when manually operated from within the safe causes the cash dispenser to accept data usable to authenticate communications received from a computer located outside the safe in the automated banking machine. The cash dispenser is operative responsive to authenticated communication to dispense cash.

Apparatus comprising:
- an automated banking machine that operates responsive at least in part to data read from data bearing records to cause financial transactions, including:
- a plurality of hardware components including:
- a card reader operative to read card data on user cards corresponding to financial accounts;
- and
- a cash dispenser;
- a housing, wherein the plurality of hardware components are in operatively supported connection with the housing;
- at least one door, wherein the at least one door is movable between a closed position and an open position;
- and
- at least one input device positioned within the housing;
- and
- at least one computer in operative communication with the plurality of hardware components and the at least one input device;
- wherein when the at least one door is in the open position the at least one input device is operative to receive authorization information through a manual operation by the user, wherein when the at least one door is in the closed position the at least one input device is not capable of receiving the authorization information through the manual operation by the user;
- wherein at least one of the hardware components is responsive at least in part to the authorization information to cause the at least one hardware component to accept data received from the at least one computer by the at least one hardware component for use with authenticating communications received by the at least one hardware component from the at least one computer, wherein when the at least one door is in the closed position, the at least one hardware component is operative to authenticate at least one communication received from the at least one computer using the accepted data, wherein the at least one hardware component is operative to carry out a transaction function responsive at least in part to the at least one authenticated communication received from the at least one computer.
Apparatus comprising:
- an automated banking machine that operates responsive at least in part to data react from data bearing records to cause financial transactions, including:
- a card reader operative to read card data on user cards corresponding to financial accounts;
- and
- a cash dispenser;
- a housing, wherein the plurality of hardware components are in operatively supported connection with the housing;
- at least one door, wherein the at least one door is movable between a closed position and an open position;
- and
- at least one input device positioned within the housing;
- and
- at least one computer in operative connection with the card reader, the cash dispenser and the at least one input device;
- wherein when the at least one door is in the open position the at least one input device is operative to receive authorization information through a manual operation by the user, wherein when the at least one door is in the closed position the at least one input device is not capable of receiving the authorization information through the manual operation by the user;
- wherein the cash dispenser is responsive at least in part to the authorization information to cause the cash dispenser to accept data received from the at least one computer by the cash dispenser for use with authenticating communications received by the cash dispenser from the at least one computer, wherein when the at least one door is in the closed position, the cash dispenser is operative to authenticate at least one communication received from the at least one computer using the accepted data, wherein the cash dispenser is operative to dispense cash responsive at least in part to the at least one authenticated communication received from the at least one computer.
Apparatus comprising:
- an automated banking machine that operates responsive at least in part to data read from data bearing records to cause financial transactions, including:
- a plurality of hardware components including:
- a reader configured to read user associated data usable to identify financial accounts;
- and
- a cash dispenser;
- a housing, wherein the plurality of hardware components are in operatively supported connection with the housing;
- at least one door, wherein the at least one door is movable between a closed position and an open position;
- and
- at least one input device positioned within the housing;
- and
- at least one computer in operative communication with the plurality of hardware components and the at least one input device;
- wherein when the at least one door is in the open position the at least one input device is operative to receive authorization information through a manual operation by the user, wherein when the at least one door is in the closed position the at least one input device is not capable of receiving the authorization information through the manual operation by the user;
- wherein at least one of the hardware components is responsive at least in part to the authorization information to cause the at least one hardware component to enable data communicated between the at least one computer and the at least one hardware component to be used to authenticate messages between the at least one hardware component and the at least one computer, wherein when the at least one door is in the closed position, at least one message between the at least one computer and the at least one hardware component is operative to be authenticated using the communicated data, wherein the at least one hardware component is operative to carry out a transaction function responsive at least in part to the at least one authenticated message communicated between the at least one computer and the at least one hardware component.
