Apparatus for the transfer of a fluid to a moving web material

An apparatus for transferring fluid to a fluid receiving surface of a web material, the apparatus comprising:

• a) a fluid transfer component, the fluid transfer component comprising a cylindrical shell having a single layer and comprising a first surface, a second web material contacting surface, and a non-random pattern of distinct pores having an aspect ratio of at least 25:1 disposed within said cylindrical shell, each of the pores defining a pathway between the first and second surfaces, each pathway having a single entry point at the first surface and a single exit point at the second surface, the pores being disposed at preselected locations to provide a desired pattern of permeability;
• b) a fluid supply configured to provide a fluid in contact with the first surface and at a constant fluid pressure with each of said pores;
• and,
• c) a fluid motivating component configured to facilitate transport of the fluid from the first surface through the pores to the second surface and then upon the fluid receiving surface when the fluid receiving surface is in contacting engagement thereto.
