Abstract
Methods include receiving data and an ECC code read from a memory array, generating an ECC code from the received data, and determining whether the received data is corrupted by evaluating the generated ECC code against the ECC code read from the memory array. If the received data is determined to be corrupted, a correction algorithm and a recorded likely state of a known bad/questionable bit of the received data may be used to correct error in the received data. Alternatively, if the received data is determined to be corrupted, the correction algorithm and a recorded location of a known bad/questionable bit of the received data may be used to correct error in the received data.
Claims26
A method comprising:
- receiving data and an ECC code read from a memory array;
- generating a first ECC code from the received data with a known bad/questionable bit of the received data set in a first state;
- evaluating the first ECC code against the ECC code read from the memory array;
- generating a second ECC code from the received data with the known bad/questionable bit of the received data set in a second state;
- evaluating the second ECC code against the ECC code read from the memory array;
- transferring the received data to a host with the known bad/questionable bit corrected to the first state responsive to the first ECC code evaluating correctly against the ECC code read from the memory array;
- and
- transferring the received data to the host with the known bad/questionable bit corrected to the second state responsive to the second ECC code evaluating correctly against the ECC code read from the memory array.
A method comprising:
- receiving data and an ECC code read from a memory array;
- generating an ECC code from the received data;
- determining whether the received data is corrupted by evaluating the generated ECC code against the ECC code read from the memory array;
- and
- if the received data is determined to be corrupted, utilizing a correction algorithm and a recorded location of a known bad/questionable bit of the received data to correct error in the received data.
A method comprising:
- receiving data and an ECC code read from a memory array;
- generating an ECC code from the received data;
- determining whether the received data is corrupted by evaluating the generated ECC code against the ECC code read from the memory array;
- and
- if the received data is determined to be corrupted, utilizing a correction algorithm and a recorded likely state of a known bad/questionable bit of the received data to correct error in the received data.
