Abstract
In one of many possible embodiments, a system for optimizing bit utilization in data encoding is provided. The exemplary system includes a data processing subsystem configured to identify a total number of unique characters within a set of data, which number represents an original base of representation of the set of data. The data processing subsystem is further configured to convert the set of data to a base of representation that is higher than the original base of representation and then encode the base-converted data with a fixed-length encoding scheme.
Claims19
A system comprising:
- a data source configured to provide data to a data processing subsystem;
- and
- said data processing subsystem communicatively coupled to said data source and configured to
- store at least a portion of said data in an internal memory of said subsystem;
- read said portion of said data from said internal memory;
- and
- identify a total number of unique characters within said portion of said data, wherein said portion of said data stored in said internal memory is greater than a portion of data stored in a non-volatile memory to reduce input and output operations between said internal memory and said non-volatile memory.
A method comprising:
- receiving, at a computing device, a set of data from a data source;
- saving at least a portion of said data in an internal memory of a subsystem;
- reading said portion of said data from said internal memory;
- and
- identifying a total number of unique characters within said data, wherein said portion of data stored in said internal memory is greater than a portion of data stored in a non-volatile memory to reduce input and output operations between said internal memory and said non-volatile memory.
A computer-readable medium tangibly embodying computer-executable instructions comprising:
- receiving a set of data having a plurality of unique characters from a data source;
- saving at least a portion of said unique characters in a digit list in an internal memory;
- reading said portion of unique characters in said digit list;
- and
- identifying a total number of said unique characters within said digit list, wherein said portion of unique characters stored in said internal memory is greater than a portion of data stored in a non-volatile memory to reduce input and output operations between said internal memory and said non-volatile memory.
