Abstract
A system for signaling an application when a requested data rate and Quality of Service cannot be achieved using OFDM wireless data transmission, and the application proceeds by either renegotiating QoS and data rate, or waiting until they requested rate and QoS are met.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- determining a noise level and a number of subchannels required to provide a data rate and a quality of service requested for a communication by a requestor;
- and
- if a first number of subchannels having an energy level below the noise level is less than the required number of subchannels then:
- taking a further action, otherwise:
- performing, by a computing device, the communication via a second number of subchannels that is less than the first number of subchannels, the second number of subchannels selected based on the required number of subchannels.

At least one computer storage device storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to perform a method comprising:
- determining a noise level and a number of subchannels required to provide a data rate and a quality of service requested for a communication by a requestor;
- and
- if a first number of subchannels having an energy level below the noise level is less than the required number of subchannels then:
- taking a further action, otherwise:
- performing the communication via a second number of subchannels that is less than the first number of subchannels, the second number of subchannels selected based on the required number of subchannels.

A system comprising:
- a computing device configured for determining a noise level and a number of subchannels required to provide a data rate and a quality of service requested for a communication by a requestor;
- and
- the computing device further configured for determining if a first number of subchannels having an energy level below the noise level is less than the required number of subchannels and, if so, then:
- taking a further action, otherwise:
- performing the communication via a second number of subchannels that is less than the first number of subchannels, the second number of subchannels selected based on the required number of subchannels.
