Device and apparatus for controlling same

A device comprising:

• a plurality of element substrates, each of which includes:
• a driving element;
• an output terminal;
• a plurality of signal generation circuits each generating a signal;
• and
• a selection circuit configured to select, on the basis of a selection signal, a state of the output terminal from among an enable state in which the signal is able to be output and a high-impedance state, wherein the selection circuit selects, from among the plurality of signal generation circuits, a signal generation circuit from which a signal is to be output to the output terminal in a case of selecting the enable state;
• a plurality of receiving units each corresponding to a different one of the plurality of element substrates and each configured to receive the selection signal;
• and
• an outputting unit commonly connected to each of the output terminals of the plurality of element substrates and configured to output the signal generated by the signal generation circuit which has been selected by the selection unit to outside of the device.
