Abstract
Conductive leather materials and methods for making the same are provided. The conductive leather materials may have a conductivity suitable to operate touch-sensitive electronic devices without a conductive path to the human body.
Claims21
A colored conductive leather material, comprising:
- a leather starting material;
- a base layer comprising base layer coatings applied to the leather starting material, the base layer coatings comprising:
- a first base layer mixture comprising a conductive particulate and a surfactant;
- and
- a second base layer mixture comprising:
- at least one of an acrylic and a urethane based polymeric dispersion;
- a wax emulsion;
- and
- masking pigments;
- and
- a middle layer comprising middle layer coatings applied to the base layer of the leather starting material, the middle layer coatings comprising a middle layer mixture comprising:
- at least one of an acrylic and a urethane based polymeric dispersion;
- a wax emulsion;
- and
- final color pigments, wherein the final color is achieved by varying the concentrations of the final color pigments or varying the number of the middle layer coatings;
- a top layer comprising top layer coatings applied to the middle layer of the leather starting material, the top layer coatings comprising:
- a first top layer mixture comprising a wax emulsion and a lacquer emulsion;
- and
- a second mixture comprising a wax emulsion.

- and
- masking pigments comprising a blend of casein/polymeric bound pigments;
- a third layer comprising a plurality of third layer coatings applied to the second layer, the second layer coatings comprising:
- at least one of an acrylic and a urethane based polymeric dispersion;
- a polyacrylate dispersion;
- a wax emulsion;
- and
- final color pigments comprising a blend of casein/polymeric bound pigments, wherein the final color pigments are different from the masking pigments;
- a fourth layer comprising a plurality of fourth layer coatings applied to the third layer, the fourth layer coatings comprising:
- a wax emulsion;
- a water dilutable nitrocellulose lacquer emulsion;
- and
- an emulsion of a high molecular mass polysiloxane;
- and
- a fifth layer comprising a plurality of fifth layer coatings applied to the fourth layer, the fifth layer coatings comprising at least one wax emulsion.
