Hub unit and a powertrain for a vehicle

A hub unit comprising an electric machine adapted for driving a wheel, comprising

• at least two planetary gears coupled in series between the electric machine and a wheel hub,
• a gear shifting device for connecting and disconnecting, respectively, one of the planetary gears from being drivingly connected to the electric machine,
• a first drive shaft adapted to transmit power to a first planetary gear in the series,
• a second shaft, arranged co-axially with the first drive shaft, adapted to transmit power to a second planetary gear in the series, and
• the gear shifting device comprises connecting means for selectively drivingly connecting one of the first and second shaft to a drive shaft adapted to transmit power from the electric machine, and the connecting means of the gear shifting device comprises a shift sleeve, which is displaceable in an axial direction and comprises portions for engaging one of the first and second shaft at a time,
• wherein the gear shifting device comprises connecting means for selectively drivingly connecting, individually, either one or the other of the first and second shaft to the drive shaft adapted to transmit power from the electric machine, the drive shaft adapted to transmit power from the electric machine being a separate shaft from either the first or the second shaft.
