Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the removal of glycoalkaloids, in particular from process streams such as those encountered during isolation of proteins from potatoes.
Claims17
A process for removing glycoalkaloids from an aqueous solution of a native non-denatured vegetable protein comprising contacting the aqueous solution with a layered silicate for a period of time effective to adsorb the glycoalkaloids, and separating the glycoalkaloid bearing layered silicate from the solution to obtain a substantially glycoalkaloid-free aqueous solution of native non-denatured vegetable protein such that there is no undesired loss of protein from said aqueous solution.
