Abstract
De-duplication operations are applied to mirror volumes. Data stored to a first volume is mirrored to a second volume. The second volume is a virtual volume having a plurality of logical addresses, such that segments of physical storage capacity are allocated for a specified logical address as needed when data is stored to the specified logical address. A de-duplication operation is carried out on the second volume following a split from the first volume. A particular segment of the second volume is identified as having data that is the same as another segment in the second volume or in the same consistency group. A link is created from the particular segment to the other segment and the particular segment is released from the second volume.
Claims18
A storage system comprising:
- a controller including a central processing unit (CPU) and a memory;
- and
- a plurality of storage devices being managed by the controller;
- wherein the controller manages a plurality of storage volumes related to the plurality of storage devices, the plurality of storage volumes including a storage volume storing copy data of data to be stored in another storage volume as a mirror source storage volume in a synchronous operation;
- and
- wherein the controller, after a suspension of the synchronous operation, performs a de-duplication operation to the storage volume storing copy data if the storage volume storing copy data is flagged for de-duplication, the storage volume storing copy data being a mirror target storage volume.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a plurality of instructions for controlling a data processor to manage a plurality of storage volumes related to a plurality of storage devices of a storage system which includes a controller having a memory, the plurality of instructions comprising:
- instructions that cause the data processor to store, in a storage volume of the plurality of storage volumes, copy data of data to be stored in another storage volume as a mirror source storage volume in a synchronous operation;
- and
- instructions that cause the data processor, after a suspension of the synchronous operation, to perform a de-duplication operation to the storage volume storing copy data if the storage volume storing copy data is flagged for de-duplication, the storage volume storing copy data being a mirror target storage volume.
