Abstract
Fluid tests may be performed to determine suitability of an additive for a production enhancement treatment. In one aspect, a measuring device is used to determine a result of adding a sample of solid material to a test fluid that includes an additive. The result may include, for example, a change in surface tension, a change in contact angle, and/or another result. The measured result is used to determine the suitability of the additive for use in a stimulation treatment for a subterranean formation. For example, the additive may be determined suitable for use during a pad phase of a fracture treatment, during a proppant-laden phase of a fracture treatment, and/or for other phases and/or types of stimulation treatments.
Claims24
A method comprising:
- using a measuring device to determine a result of adding a sample of a solid material to a test fluid, the test fluid comprising an additive;
- and
- determining a suitability of the additive for use in a stimulation treatment of a subterranean formation based on an adsorption characteristic of the additive determined from the result.
A method for performing a fracture treatment, the method comprising:
- receiving information on an additive selected for treating a subterranean formation, the additive selected based on an adsorption characteristic determined from a measured result of adding a sample of a solid material to a test fluid comprising the additive;
- and
- injecting the additive into the subterranean formation through a well bore defined in the subterranean formation.
A system comprising:
- a fluid testing subsystem that determines a suitability of an additive for a stimulation treatment based on an adsorption characteristic of the additive determined from a result of adding a sample of a solid material to a test fluid comprising the additive;
- and
- a stimulation treatment subsystem that applies the additive to a subterranean formation through a well bore defined in the subterranean formation.
