Electrophotographic image forming apparatus with locking member for spacing components of the apparatus and preventing movement of components of the apparatus

An electrophotographic image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording material, the apparatus comprising:

• (i) a drum cartridge including an image bearing member and charging means for charging a surface of said image bearing member, said drum cartridge being demountably mounted to a main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus;
• (ii) a rotary supporting a plurality of developing means each having a developer carrying member for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on said image bearing member, said rotary being swingably mounted to said main assembly of the apparatus through a supporting member and being rotatable, relative to said supporting member, to bring said developing means to a developing position for developing the electrostatic latent image;
• (iii) an urging member for urging said drum cartridge to said main assembly of said apparatus to position it in place;
• and
• (iv) a locking member for spacing between said developing means positioned in the developing position and said image bearing member, said locking member being demountably mounted between said drum cartridge and said rotary, and said locking member being effective to prevent said urging member from moving from a position urging said drum cartridge to said main assembly of the apparatus.
