Method and system for verification of video signal validity

A surveillance video verification system, the system comprising:

• at least one digital video camera equipped with a controllable illumination source;
• at least one display monitor connected to a video routing unit and having a current consumption sensor for generating current consumption samples;
• the video routing unit connected to the video camera, the video routing unit routing a video stream from the video camera to the display monitor and to a recorder connected to the video routing unit;
• a video verification unit located between the video routing unit and the display monitor and connected to the controllable illumination source, the video verification unit receives and processes current consumption samples from the current consumption sensor;
• and
• a power supply unit connected to the display monitor,
• wherein:
• the video verification unit controls the controllable illumination source and generates illumination change events;
• the video verification unit detects changes in display monitor current consumption triggered by the illumination change events;
• the video verification unit stores an audit log of the illumination change events;
• and
• the video verification unit generates an alarm if the current consumption does not correlate to the illumination change events.
